I remember playing Guetzkow’s Inter-Nation Simulation for a week in POLI 445 back at UVic! Everythign was done with paper and pencil, and the “newspaper” for the players was run off on a mimeo machine. I copied the manual and tried to make a computer version of it on my old Commodore VIC-20. How long ago that all seems now….

I also remember the INS well from Dick Powers’ IR undergrad course at UVic. As the Soviet player, we decided to show our resolve in the face of increasing US pressure by clamping down against the Solidarity trade union movement in Poland (which wasn’t in the simulation). I even brought along a recording of “The International” to accompany our announcement of the stalwart defence of a fraternal socialist ally ;)
